Hunting Areas

Hunting is done at Comre, at nearby game ranches, at other areas in South Africa and at concessions in Namibia, Zimbabwe and Mozambique.  We have permanent concessions arranged with service providers and arrange other concessions depending on hunting conditions or our clients’ particular requirements.

Below are examples of both permanent and temporary concessions.

South Africa

Eastern Cape

Comre Game ranch

Our own ranch and the base for almost all our hunts.  Tucked away in a beautiful valley close to the spectacular Winterberg mountains, this 22 000 acre game ranch has some of the most spectacular terrain Africa has to offer. The camp has great atmosphere and evenings will be spent around an African campfire. There are 21 different species of game to be hunted, including springbuck, kudu, Black Wildebeest, Red Hartebeest, buffalo, rhino and all species endemic to the Karoo.

Huntershill and Rocklands

Huntershill offers a unique hunting experience in South Africa’s Eastern Cape. This large game farm of 55 000 acres offers trophy hunting, bow hunting, fishing and wing shooting.  Hunting at Huntershill is superb.  Because our winters are often below freezing we have few ticks and other parasites, which means that our animals are mainly disease free.  Superb specimens of most buck are available.

Rocklands is about one hour’s drive from Comre and Huntershill.  Rocklands offers a different dimension in hunting for the hunter who wants something different. The terrain at Rocklands is less hilly than Comre and Huntershill and the bush is quite dense, so spotting and tracking are not easy.  And the shot will test your skill.  Many hunters relish this challenge.

Limpopo

Bonwa Phala Nature Reserve

Bonwa Phala offers a pristine, diverse and unique destination in the Bela Bela District of Limpopo Province. The weather is warm almost all year round and Bonwa Phala is a true home for lovers of nature and the African bush.  Nyala, impala, buffalo and rhino all occur in great numbers and the terrain varies from mountainous slopes to Miombo type forest. Due to the location of the main thatch and tented camp, it offers absolute privacy and exclusivity.

Itaga Private Game Lodge

Nestled in the shadows of the Waterberg Mountains near Bela-Bela, Itaga Lodge is located in the greater Mabalingwe Nature Reserve, a Malaria free area of Limpopo Province and home to the 'Big 5'. It takes only 2 hours to reach Itaga from Johannesburg and just over an hour from Pretoria, travelling via the national Polokwane road - one of the country’s finest scenic highways.

Itaga has earned a proud reputation as an exclusive luxury lodging establishment, offering eight stylish, air-conditioned / heated en-suite, African themed chalets. The rooms have private pergola covered patios and guests have a choice of either shower and bath, or shower only. Most rooms also feature a screened outdoor 'bush shower' for that exhilarating 'Out of Africa' experience.

The thatched central complex has a romantically selected dining area; an intimate lounge with feature fireplace; a cocktail bar with viewing deck overlooking the floodlit waterhole; a cozy open-air bush boma; an all day tea and coffee refreshment station for the convenience of our guests; a DSTV loft lounge and library; a gift, curio and fashion goods boutique; a swimming pool with large sundeck and indoor/outdoor conference facilities catering for up to 16 corporate delegates. The elevated 'upper deck' offers stunning views across the plains, and the solitude of this private location makes it the perfect place to witness sensational sunsets and enjoy the sounds of the wild.

For the safety of our guests (and the protection of our Marula trees from mischievous elephants), the area surrounding the camp is encircled by an electrified game fence.

Leadwood Private Lodge

This game Ranch is Comre Safaris’ main “bow hunting only” concession, offering a large variety of game species. With a spectacular lodge situated on a rock outcrop lending itself to the most beautiful views of the African savannah, game can be spotted from your bedroom window.

Kalahari

The adrenalin-rush of tracking down a lion on foot in the Camelthorn dominated sandy region of South Africa is an experience that cannot be matched. Hours, sometimes days, of foot slogging through thick sand is usually rewarded by tracking down and shooting the trophy of a lifetime. Plains game such as springbuck, gemsbuck, hartebeest and wildebeest also inhabit the Kalahari, although these animals often go without running surface water for most of the year.

Namibia

Namibia is one of Africa’s top hunting and wildlife sightseeing countries. Its enormous size, one of the lowest populations in the world with resultant incredibly low population density and abundant wildlife, qualify it as an outstanding hunting and safari paradise. The Namibian government is pro-hunting and view sustainable use of their environment as a tool to grow their national economy, provide jobs, food and create revenue and visiting hunters therefore welcome.

From the harsh, flat open rock terrain in the south with its Springbuck and Gemsbok herds, to the vast Namib desert and enormous sand dunes on the eastern seaboard, to its rocky inselbergs in the north with greater Kudu, Klipspringer and Baboons next to the Kunene and Okavango rivers with Hippos and Crocs to the brush and Mopani forests of the Caprivi strip with Elephant, Buffalo, Lion and Leopard, Namibia offer the true outdoorsman unparalleled possibilities and opportunities.

We mainly offer hunts in the 1000 000 acre Damara Land Concession were Leopard is abundant and where the spectacular Desert Lion, Black Rhino and Elephant are found with some limited quota available for trophy hunting. There is also the Caprivi and greater Bushman land hunting areas for good Elephant, Buffalo, Leopard, Hippo, Crocodile and Lion.

Zimbabwe

One of Africa’s best kept secrets, this jewel of a country is still producing some huge elephants and leopards. With well managed concession areas ,comfortable accommodation and friendly staff, we specialise in hunting leopards over hounds, and obtain quota every season in great areas across Zimbabwe.

Mozambique

For the Hunter who wants more than just trophies, but also to enjoy true traditional track hunting, Mozambique offers the ultimate experience. The areas we hunt in are vast open natural land, where game still roams freely as far as the eye can see.

The North Cabo Delgado Province, where our main concession is located, is home to some magnificent elephant, hippo, crocodile and buffalo. Mozambique boasts some of the best trackers in the world. It is not, however, for the faint hearted, as you can to walk up to 20km a day tracking potential game in extreme heat. The reward of a top quality trophy makes it an exciting and unforgettable adventure. Traditional safari style en-suite tents or bungalow accommodation is offered, with fine dining and three course meals.
